Six-foot-three center Haley Lorenzen ’14 has been stealing the spotlight on the court since her freshman year. To cap off her record breaking career, Lorenzen was awarded the prestigious honor of Gatorade Player of the Year for the 2013-2014 season.

For the 2013-2014 season Lorenzen led the team in scoring with an average of 20.8 points per game, shooting 59.5% in field goal range. She also was a strong contributor the City’s defense as she had 82 blocks and averaged 9.5 rebounds per game. She assisted in leading the Little Hawks to the semifinals of the state tournament and accomplished many other achievements this year. She scored her 1000th career point early in the season, was named to the MVC 1st Team All-Conference and All-Academic teams.

Although her career at City High ended last Friday, Lorenzen had not finished being acknowledged for her work this year. Thursday morning it was announced that she had been named Gatorade Player of the Year, an honor awarded to only one male and female basketball player in each state.

Lorenzen will continue her basketball career as a Florida Gator next year.
