City vs West Soccer Preview

Brady Vanlo and Nasim Salih

It’s that time of the year once again. City High will be battling it out on the pitch against their rivals from the other side of the town, West High.

The rivalry between the Trojans and the Little Hawks have been very competitive for the past 4 years, with the record being tied at 2-2.

Last season, a very thrilling and unexpected last second goal from Scott Tribbey saw the Little Hawks defeat the then undefeated, 13-0 Trojans.

“Last years game pretty much summed up the rivalry as a whole,” said Nasim Salih ‘16, “the game gave us a lot of momentum last season and we ended up becoming MVC champs and we’re hoping to see a repeat of that this year,”

With the Little Hawks being the heavy favorite to win the rivalry this year, there is a lot of pressure on the them to win this game seeing as how they are on a two game losing streak after losses to Linn Marr and Dubuque Hempstead.

“This is a must win game for us,” says Salih, “after a two game losing streak, nothing would be better than to end it with a win against our rivals,”

One key matchup to look out for in tonight’s game is City High’s center back duo of Adam Nicholson ‘15 and Scott Tribbey ‘15 going up against the strong attacking force of West High’s Antonio Sanchez ‘15.

Tonight’s game will be held at the Iowa soccer complex tonight. Girls will begin their game at 5 and the boys game will be held after.
