With two years under their belts, Grace Hartwig ’17 and Rebekah Tate ’16 are ready for the next generation of color guard.

The red flags wiggled in the air with uncertainty.  A constant pace echoed in the air as the captains kept the pace with their black flags and loud voices. The first training had begun for the City High color guard.

“I am excited that we have new people joining us,” Captain Grace Hartwig ’17 said. “The more people who tryout the better.”

Hartwig was elected captain by the 2015 color guard. Rebekah Tate was chosen by Grace as co-captain. These two will be leading the color guard team in producing the dance and color of the marching band. This year they are excited with the amount of new guards who are starting to participate. For them, a larger guard is better guard.

“We like new faces. The more flags we get on the field, the cooler everything looks,” Tate said.

They hope that more people decide to come out as the only requirement is to have first period open for band. The clinics are everyday till this Friday, May 20th. During the clinics, participants will learn the basic skills of performing: marching, dancing, and certain spins.
