Among the gloomy, rainy weather of April comes the excitement of soccer season starting up. Monday April 3rd, was the Women’s Soccer Jamboree hosted at Kingston Stadium. The City High Women’s Soccer Team took on Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School for its second scrimmage of the season.

The Girls played a 40 minute game against Jefferson. The one half scrimmage was another chance for coaches to try out new combinations and lineups while the players get their fair share of playing time. City High possessed and controlled the game with ease. Jefferson was a big challenge for City after its previous scrimmage against North Scott. The game was still controlled by the City players. The girls moved the ball well and created many opportunities in front of the goal. Sydney Deprenger, the only junior on the varsity roster, had many shots at goal and with an assist from senior, Grace Brown ‘17. Deprenger scored her first goal of the season. The girls managed to shut out Jefferson 1-0 at the end of the game. They would go home with a win.

“I’m excited to see how this new team works together,” Brown ‘17 said.

The team prepares to face their opponents, Pleasant Valley this Thursday at Pleasant Valley for their first game of the season.
