Supergirl Review

Maureen Fesenmeyer, Reporter

If you like superhero shows, then you would like Supergirl. Supergirl is a show that has been on the CW since 2015. It is based around the life of Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin, who was sent with Kal-El (Superman) to earth when she was twelve so that she could protect him–but her ship gets displaced and she ends up landing on earth much later. The show has been very popular with all ages and all demographics. The show has a rating of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes. I personally rate it at a solid 90% as far as quality of content and production.

This show is in its second season, but it has already had crossovers with other superhero shows that are on CW. For example, Supergirl has had many crossover episodes with the Flash both in season one and season two, and with Superman at the beginning of season two. The crossovers are satisfying because it shows that the different stories are in the same time period or universe.

As far as the production goes, it is pretty good. The special effects used in this show are very believable and very interesting. The actors are good at portraying the characters. The dialogue and the plot is interesting and intriguing. I would recommend starting from the beginning, which you can find on Netflix. One of the main issues in the show other than aliens is family issues and societal issues. There are also hints of modern satire. For example, in the newest episode there is an invasion and the ruler of the enemy tells Supergirl that he wants to make his planet great again. The show has hints of modern day issues such as racism and stereotyping. I would definitely recommend it if you like superhero shows or sci-fi shows.
