‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2’ – Movie Review

SPOILER FREE REVIEW

Without giving too much of the plot away, ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2’ (mostly) revolves around Peter Quill (Star-Lord) meeting his father, Ego, and him learning about his heritage. One of the things the film does really well is capturing the bond between Peter & Ego. It really felt like a father & son relationship.

There were also a few other stories going on. One of the standouts was Yondu’s & Rocket’s story line. Basically they’re trapped somewhere and they need to get out. This was really fun to watch because the viewers get to see two unlikely people work together. The chemistry that both of them had with each other felt really real, because as the film goes on, you see that Yondu & Rocket are a lot alike.

Where the film falters is with two of the villains. There are these gold people in the film called “The Sovereign.” In my opinion, they had a very minuscule affect on the grand plot. They seemed really cartoony and animated, but it seemed to be on purpose.

There’s also a character named Taserface. He was ok, not the best. But unlike the gold idiots, he actually did something that led to something.

Most of the jokes in the film were spot on funny. It felt like director James Gunn looked at the jokes from the first film (which were great), and saw what worked well and what didn’t. My one issue with the jokes was that there was one that went on longer then it should have.

I really enjoyed the soundtrack, once again. The film found great songs and they put them into perfect scenes. I’d say if there was any specific song that stood out…I would go with either Wham Bam by Silver or Come A Little Bit Closer by Jay & The Americans.

Overall, I think ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2’ is definitely worth watching, especially if you’re an avid fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If you’re looking for a fun summer movie to go to, I recommend this one.
