City High will take on Davenport Central in the first official game of the boys basketball season on December 3rd at Davenport Central. With two preseason wins against Anamosa and Williamsburg head coach Don Showalter believes his team is ready.
“So far we’re looking good,” Showalter said. “We’ve made baskets when it counted and have pressed defensively.”
Last year City High beat Davenport Central 56-51, and is hoping to take another win this year.
“They are an advanced team,” Showalter said. “But I believe we can take them.”
The victory over Williamsburg, 72-42, [Dec 2] gave us the confidence to do that.”
Leading players for City High in the Williamsburg game were Austin Withrow ‘14, scoring 19 points, Ladarius Taylor ‘14, scoring 15 points, and Logan LaFauce ‘15 with 8 rebounds.
Showalter knows his team is ready for their first game, but is unsure what to expect.
“We’re going in there blinded,” Showalter said, “it should be interesting to see what [Davenport] bring to the table.”
