The aroma of coffee wafts through the teachers’ lounge and treats line the counters as teachers are showered with small acts of kindness this week. Around the community people are going out of their way to recognize and thank teachers. This week is Teacher Appreciation Week and City High is making an effort to thank their teachers in a special way.

“This week is an opportunity for us to recognize teachers that work very hard to make a strong impact,” Bacon said. “I believe that the teachers in the classroom are so critical to a great education, they play an important role and we take this opportunity to thank them for everything they do.”

All week long, the school and community have been appreciating teachers with small acts of kindness. Throughout the week, McDonalds has brought coffee and some businesses have dropped off treats for the teachers. Mr. Bacon, City High principal, has planned a present for teachers this Thursday during their faculty meeting.

Bacon invited a variety of seniors at City High to attend the meeting and form a student panel. These students were asked to reflect on ways that the teachers at City have made a positive impact on their lives, made a difference for them, inspired them, or to just tell their stories.

“I thought that would be gratifying for teachers to hear, this is what it’s all about,” Bacon said. “I think hearing these stories from seniors is a nice way to thank them for the difference they’ve made.”

After the meeting, the teachers are also provided with Dilly Bars from Dairy Queen as an extra thank you.

CITY HIGH STUDENTS ON THEIR FAVORITE TEACHERS:

“One time Mr. McTaggart used ‘rachet’ as an adjective, he called the Vietnam War rachet. ‘A rachet situation.’” -Jordan Brown ‘17

“Mr. Schumann has the best slideshows ever and he’s very young and hip and cool.” -Gabi Mumm

“One time we were playing a review game for AP World History, and it was Mr Brown’s turn, and normally he’s a quiet guy. Well, he came to a question that was ‘Where did potatoes originate?’, to which he exclaims, ‘Potatoes?!’, he guesses Mexico, but is wrong, so he’s like ‘What is it?! What’s the answer?!’, and then he goes back to being quiet.” -Ellis Fontana ’16

“Ms. Davis is the bomb-dot-com, she’s really personable, she likes to tell us stories about her life, which is nice, so you get to know your teacher more, and she really cares if you like what you’re doing or not.” -Genevieve Wisdom ‘17

“I really like Ms Borger-Germann, she’s just funny all the time. She’s teaching us Romeo and Juliet right now, and when she gets to certain vocabulary words, she’ll get up and act it out, she’s very energetic and makes everything really funny and interesting, she doesn’t get uncomfortable, which is cool.” -Madeline Spivey ‘17

“My favorite teacher memory is just having Ms Fettweis in general, she teaches US Lit. Honors. It was truly an incredible experience, she’s so energetic and she’s a lot of fun. She’s very ecstatic when she teaches, she’ll run around the room and do dances whenever she wants to. This particular time, she was doing all that, except, she was getting really excited about a topic we were talking about, she slipped and fell right on her butt, and then there’s this stunned moment when everyone just, *gasp*, and she just sits there, and eventually the moment passed and it was hilarious, but it was just a perfect example of how intimate and passionate she is about what she does.” -Elijah Jones ‘14
