City’s varsity girls basketball team battled it out against Cedar Rapids Prairie on Friday night.
“There was great crowd support tonight!” cheerleader Caitlin Clougherty ‘11 said.
The halftime score was 32-23 City. The top two scorers at half were Virginia Johnson’11 with 13 points and Micky Hansche’13 with 8 points.
“Virg is one of the best players in the state. Mickey is our best 3 point shooter,” Coach Bill McTaggart said.
The final score showed 71-40 for City.
“Every game is super important, even the smaller ones for preparing,” player Harper Beasley’12 said.
When asked about the possibility of making it to state Johnson said “It’s in the back of our minds. RIght now we’re focusing on the game on Tuesday”.Varsity girls will play another home game today against Cedar Falls at 6:00PM.
“The team’s main strength is that they’re united and they get along well,” McTaggart said.
Both girls and boys varsity will face West High Friday night, Jan. 14. Girls will play at 6:00PM and boys will play at 7:30PM.
