As the bell at the end of the school day rings, 90 boys grades 9-12 all throughout City High School go to their lockers, get their homework, and head down to the training room to meet for cross country practice.

“We have a dedicated group that works hard in practice each day and this is a positive influence on others,” Jayme Skay, Mens Cross Country coach said.

This year holds the largest amount of boys on the cross country team so far in City High’s history, changing practice routines and the way the team organizes for meets. For example, the boys team no longer shares a team camp with the girls.

“The number of boys on the team is not as important as to the type of boys on the team,” Skay said. “If we have great kids then we can coach any number of them.”

Skay is excited for meets to start and thinks the season is looking hopeful.

“For meets it means we have more runners to push our team to race faster and lower the score for the team,” Skay said.
