With a pleasant temperature of 68 degree’s and clear skies the conditions were perfect for a tough conference meet with Cedar Rapids Xavier. However the weather did not favor the Little Hawks on the day, falling 9-0 to Xavier.

“They are trying hard,” coach Chip Hardesty said. “I told them [after the meet] that Xavier is a tough and veteran team and our inexperience showed. This is only the second meet of the season.”

One of the more competitive matches was the third player Erik McCoy ’12. McCoy dominated early in his sets but was defeated 7-5, 6-4.

“He played every point hard,” Hardesty said. “He is really serious about tennis.”

Hardesty will be working on constant motion in the next weeks.

“One of our problems is that we weren’t on our feet enough,” Hardesty said. “In our practice tonight we will definitely be working on this.”

City High will have the chance to redeem themselves this Saturday morning against Dubuque Wahlert at City High.
