At 4 p.m. on December 10th, just four hours before City High’s Snow Ball dance was due to start, the dance was canceled due to concerns about the weather: it had been snowing steadily, and the City parking lots were unplowed and icy.

“I think that a lot of people were really disappointed about the cancellation,” Student Senate President Lucy Wagner ‘17 said. “In terms of parking, it would have been nearly impossible.”

On the planned night of the Snow Ball, after the news arrived of the cancellation, Student Senate members stayed optimistic that the dance would be held later in the school year. At the next weekly meeting, they worked to reschedule the dance. After working around conflicts including Dance Marathon and Show Choir, the students found a date that fit.

The new date, February 10th, is a Friday night and will maintain the wintry Harry Potter theme, as well as going along with Valentine’s day – without enforcing any relationship parameters; the tagline of ‘anybody ask anybody’ will remain.

“I am upset that it had to be pushed back so far,” Wagner said, “But I think in the long run it is good that it will not be conflicting with Dance Marathon.”
