On Wednesday, January 18, City High’s show choirs, prep group City Lights and varsity group 4th Avenue Jazz, were paid a visit by two special guest clinicians.

“I liked her a lot,” Jeremy Brook ‘20, a member of City Lights, said of the clinician who visited the group. “She focused a lot on vocals, and we really needed [that help].”

The clinicians were choir directors Amy Farley and Peter Westphalen, who direct show choirs at Cedar Rapids Washington High School. The prep group Farley directs, Celebration, placed first in the prep division at Cedar Rapids’ Prairie’s Invitational competition, while Westphalen’s varsity group Momentum placed second in their division.

“She made us realize that we’re not as energetic and peppy as we were,” Brook said. “She really underscored the fact that we need to try harder than everyone else to do well.”
