Showchoir, theater, choir, band, jazz band, and schoolwork all adds up to a full day of activity for me. It seems that every day, I am at school from 7:45 in the morning to at least 6:00 in the evening. Add on hours of homework and the only break I get is while I’m asleep. It is this never-ending cycle that made me stress out enough to drop two classes since last year.

After dropping those classes, I have had a load of homework lifted off of my shoulders but I am still in need of more time. The only problem is that it is required to be in PE if you don’t have a full schedule during the first tri. I dropped one class in the middle of first tri this year which lead me to having a required PE class- I am not eligible for an academic waiver anymore. Little do they know that I don’t have time to waste running laps when I could be catching up on school work.

I am one of many students who participate in demanding activities, sucking up time and energy. Why is it that all students who don’t have a full schedule are required to take some sort of PE when we are are already exhausted?

It is true that there are students who simply aren’t involved. They don’t take many classes and they aren’t in extra curricular activities. That doesn’t mean that everyone without a full schedule is like this. Why is there no way around PE? Why is it required? Just because you have a full schedule shouldn’t mean that you get out of PE and having extra periods should not be the reason to be enrolled in PE.
