On Wednesday, The Little Hawk volleyball team will play the Cedar Falls Tigers in the quarterfinal round of the state tournament. Game time is at 12 noon on court two at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.
Coming into this game Cedar Falls is ranked No. 11 with a record of 26-12. The Little Hawks are ranked No. 2 in the state with a record of 38-3. The Little Hawks beat Cedar Falls 2-0 previously at the MVC tournament in Iowa City on October 15.
In their previous match against Cedar Falls Abby Saehler ‘13 had five kills with 55.6 percent kill efficiency, and Michaela Nelson ‘14 had 11 kills with 45 percent kill effiency, and Liz Hubing added six kills. The Little Hawks also played good defense against the Tigers with a team total of 41 digs.
In Cedar Falls’ last match against West Des Moines Dowling Catholic, libero Jamie Farley ’12 had a good denfensive game recording 30 digs. Krystal Graves ’12 had 13 kills and Kaz Brown ’14 had 10 kills. One of the Tigers’ top players is Miranda Dusenberry ’13. Dusenberry has the team’s second highest number of kills on the season with 244, and the second highest number of digs with 283. She also has the most aces per set for Cedar Falls, averaging .59. The key for the Little Hawks will be to hit aggressively, block well, and play their consistent passing game.
If the Little Hawks win against Cedar Falls Wednesday afternoon, they will play the winner of the Waukee vs. Ankeny match in the semifinal round of the state tournament on Friday November 11 at 1:30 on court two.
