While the Little Hawks started the match a little flat, they pulled together to come away with another win, and a trip to the state semi-finals. The team played Cedar Falls on Wednesday afternoon at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.
Serving errors and miscommunication caused the team to split the first two sets, 25-18, 16-25.
“There’s always state tournament jitters,” head coach Craig Pitcher said. “It’s hard to get into a flow right away just because it’s a new enviroment.”
The Little Hawks picked it up in the third and fourth sets. They controlled the Tigers in the final games to win, 25-10, 25-11.
“Once we we got in the flow, we were able to get into our system and do a lot of good things,” Pitcher said.
Michaela Nelson ’14 and Rachel Rinehart ’13 each had 11 kills on the night. Liz Hubing ’13 had seven kills. Erin Muir ’12 had a match-high of 36 assists. Laura Shepherd ’12 had 17 digs and Nelson had 16 digs.
The Little Hawks will play Ankeny on Friday at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena at 1:30 on court 2 in a semi-final match.
“From here, every match is going to be a barn burner so you can’t afford big hiccups like that second set we gave Cedar Falls,” Pitcher said.
