Girls: Linn-Mar 53 City 66
The 13th-ranked Little Hawk girls’ basketball team had a slow start to their game Tuesday night at City High. The team still managed to tame the Linn-Mar Lions (2-1). City High (3-0) was lead by senior Sierra Chambers, who dominated down low for the Little Hawks putting up 21 points in the post. Junior Mickey Hansche also contributed with 19 points.
The Little Hawks host Waterloo East on Friday night. The sophomores tip-off is at 5:30 p.m. with varsity to follow
Boys: City 41 DM Lincoln 38
The boys opened up the season with a win at Des Moines Lincoln (0-1). The Little Hawks(1-0) held the Rail Splitters to just two points in the fourth quarter to seal the late game comeback win. Seniors Jerel Moore and Ronald Thompson combined for 17 points and 14 rebounds. Junior Lonnie Chester sank two free throws with 9.9 seconds left in the game to seal the victory.
City High plays host to Davenport West on Saturday night. Varsity tips off at 5:00 p.m.
