The student senate meeting on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, began with an announcement from President Lottie Gidal ’19 about Powderpuff volleyball.
“If you are interested in helping out with that, as the day gets closer, we’ll ask for help getting set up,” Gidal said. “Spread the word to your friends to start a team. We have eight [teams] this year so far. If we really don’t have a lot of teams sign up, we can open it up to underclassmen.”
Vice President Naomi Meurice ’19 kicked off the discussion of club grants.
“We have…six different club grant requests,” Meurice said.
Senate Treasurer Rachael Volkman ’19 discussed the amount of money the senate could conceivably give out to clubs. The senate needs $4000 to start off the 2019-2020 school year.
“Last year at winter formal we made almost three thousand dollars. [This year] winter formal did not bring as much as it should have, so at a rough balance we have…$7500 [at the end of the year],” Volkman said. “I would say $2000-$2500 would be about your max.”
The senate reviewed the various grant applications and eventually settled on donating $200 to Tabletop Roleplaying Club, $250 to the field trip to the Abraham Lincoln memorial in Illinois, and $250 to Mock Trial. The rest of the applications will continue to be reviewed.
The senate meets every Wednesday at 8:15 in Room 3311. To learn more, attend meetings, which are open to all students, or contact Steve Tygrett, the primary faculty adviser.
