After the first meet of the season, the City High cross country teams are already sweeping away the competition. The girls varsity and junior varsity teams, along with the boys junior varsity, all received perfect scores.

“It went pretty well,” Lilly Reynolds ‘21, who is running on varsity this year, said. “It was really exciting to just to get back into racing.”

Even though some of the boys team’s best runners were not at the meet, coach Jay Welp said that the meet went very well and the runners placed very well.

“The team support was really great,” Harper Denniston ‘21 said.

At the team’s time trials on the first Saturday after school started, the girls team only ran two miles. This meet was its first time racing a 5k of the 2019 season.

“Anytime we have 180 City High athletes, it feels like there’s a ton of support for our kids even if a lot of it is coming from our team and the parents,” Welp said. “It was a pretty fun atmosphere. Kids seemed really excited and ready to go.”
