The Marriott Hotel was stuffed to the brim last Saturday, as presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders, accompanied by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez held a rally to muster support from local voters. An estimate of 2000 citizens came, clad with candidate placards, pins, and stickers.

The rally was held to follow up his Climate Crisis Summit, held in Council Bluffs, IA the day prior. Sanders has self proclaimed the most comprehensive climate change plan of all presidential candidates, with an estimated $16.3 trillion dollar price tag. The policy has become quite controversial, but Sanders continues to defend the plan, stating that there is no alternative solution.

“The climate crisis is not only the single greatest challenge facing our country; it is also our single greatest opportunity to build a more just and equitable future, but we must act immediately” Sen. Sanders repeats in his stump speech.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the youngest representative ever sworn into congress, has endorsed Sanders for president due to their similar progressive values, including Medicare for All, College for All, and the Green New Deal.

“I’m fighting for Bernie, because Bernie has always fought for me” states Ocasio-Cortez while discussing her endorsement.

The event was a grand finale to Sanders’ “End Corporate Greed” tour around Iowa, and with great confidence, he will be back.
