In early December, Curling Club had an opportunity to meet and curl with Olympic gold medalist Tyler George. George recently visited the Iowa City area when he spent the weekend of December 7 and 8 curling at Coral Ridge Mall in Coralville.

“It was mesmerizing, I felt the very fibers of my body quiver when I met Tyler. He excreted curling wisdom, prowess, expertise, and genius.” Timothy Wildes ‘21 said.

George spent both days helping people learn how to curl, taking photos, and showing all the sport has to offer.

“Even with the unfortunate shortage of participants we had, that night was extremely educational and a night to remember.” Braeden Marker ‘23 said.

George is originally from Duluth, Minnesota, yet his fame is global. Recently, at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang County, South Korea, George won gold for the U.S. in curling with his team John Shuster, Matt Hamilton, and John Landsteiner. This was the first time in the Olympics that an American won a gold medal for curling.
