These soon-to-be-released albums are a must-have for starting off summer right.

Japanese Breakfast Jubilee June 4

One of the most promising albums on this list, Michelle Zauner’s (Japanese Breakfast) new album Jubilee comes out on June 4th. The song “Be Sweet” updates her sound while still keeping her signature. This song has become an instant favorite, I cannot wait to hear what else this album has in store for Japanese Breakfast fans. Japanese Breakfast is on the same record label as Phoebe Bridgers, Dead Oceans.

Bachelor, Jay Som & Palehound Doomin’ Sun  May 28

Jay Som and Palehound revisit late 90s American pop-punk/ alternative. The song “Stay In The Car” is reminiscent of Superdrag’s 1996 album “Regretfully Yours”.  This record will be from Polyvinyl, which has many good artists; including some on this list.

Lucy Dacus Home Video June 25

Phoebe Bridger’s surprisingly even more depressed bandmate from Boy Genius, Lucy Dacus, is coming back with her album following an EP in 2019 titled after the year, and her 2018 masterpiece Historian. The only song released at this point is “Hot & Heavy”, a mix of her wonderful lyrics and her more poppy sound she brought to her last EP when she did a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s Dancing in the dark. Matador Records

Lana Del Rey Rock Candy Sun June 1, Blue Banisters July 4

Artist Lana Del Rey will be releasing her second and third albums of 2021 this summer and has not put out any singles for her upcoming albums. Her next album, Rock Candy Sun, was announced just one day after Chemtrails over the country club was released.

Squirrel Flower Planet (i) June 25

If you’ve been a fan or even a distant observer of the renaissance in female alternative/indie music in the past few years, you will love Squirrel Flower. Alternative artist Ella Williams (Squirrel Flower) is releasing her fourth album in late June. Williams toured with Soccer Mommy in 2019. Squirrel Flower is on the record label Polyvinyl.

black midi Cavalcade May 28

Not bad but not as good as it should be, certainly does not meet standards set by their 2019 album “Schlagenheim”. It takes a while to get used to, the more you listen the better it sounds. Those who liked Black Country, New Road’s first and only album will love this.
