Student Senate Brings Back ‘Tampon Tuesday’

Rushing through the main foyer on any given Tuesday morning, you may find yourself greeted by an ample amount of freshly baked brownies, Hyvee sugar cookies, or even a bag of puppy chow. Though this is not your typical bake sale, this is Tampon Tuesday.

“Tampon Tuesday is an organization, now held by Student Senate, previously held by Interact club, where students bring baked goods and sell them in exchange for a dollar or a menstrual product,” Nathalie Nunez ‘22 explained.

After previously pausing the club due to COVID guidelines, Nunez was inspired to bring back the club. They have since raised over three hundred dollars to stalk the City High bathrooms with menstrual products.

“I hope underclassmen keep it going. I want people to take away that menstrual products are so expensive for them to be a necessity for women,” Nunez said. “It’s nice knowing that if you need [a menstrual product] there’s always going to be one at school.”

Nunez hopes to expand to selling baked goods both before and after school. To participate in future Tampon Tuesdays, contact @[email protected].
