City Wrestling Struggles at Lancer Duals: Slideshow

Lacking two key wrestlers, City struggled at the Lancer Duals in Eldridge, Iowa. The team went 0-4 against several teams from the MAC, falling to 8th ranked North Scott, Davenport West, Dewitt Central, and Fort Madison.

There were three forfeits at 126, 160, and 195 pounds as the team was missing Amos Lavela ‘13 and Damond Coghill-Behrends ‘15 due to a show choir competition at Cedar Rapids Prairie.

However, the team did have two wrestlers who went undefeated for the tournament as 4-0; Will Ortiz ‘16 at 106 lbs, and Ryan Maas ‘14 at 220 lbs.

“We have to continually get better every week” head coach Cory Connell said after the tournament on Saturday.

This year, Coach Connell has opened up the wrestling room for nearly every morning of the week for wrestlers to get more time on the mat and to work with the other coaches on technique.

“And what it really comes down to is how much you want it” Connell said.
