Teacher Appreciation: Mr. Schlicher makes smart, scholar science students

I’ve always had less interest in science than any other subject, but when I met Mr. Schlicher in 8th grade I had a feeling that he would change my mind. Mr. Schilcher always brought a calm presence to the classroom and made coming to science the highlight of my day by making the class fun and finding ways to enjoy learning. Every day he would make science class different and interesting. One day we might do an assignment with the class, then a lab to wrap up our understanding of the assignment, and then an independent assignment. Mr. Schlicher always made time for each individual student to make sure each and every student was understanding the unit and would check up on how they felt. I always felt like I understood his class and never felt under pressure or stressed because he was such a considerate, understanding, and helpful teacher.

My motivation for teaching is to help students find their love of learning. I know that this can sometimes get lost in the grind of assignments, tests, projects, and grades, so I always try to frame what we learn in a way that shows the bigger picture.” Mr. Schlicher stated, and he did just that every day and made a tough year of going back and forth from synchronous to asynchronous class time enjoyable.
