What is your internet reputation?
According to Dr. Patchin, an internet reputation is basically what appears when you type your name into Google.
350 students gathered in the Opstad Auditorium during seventh period, to hear Dr. Justin W. Patchin speak. He is a professor of Criminal Justice at The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Dr. Patchin came to City High School to discuss Cyberbullying and how to help stop it. The main point of his presentation was to express that everything teens put online, whether it’s Facebook or Youtube, can be accessed by anybody, including future employers and parents.
“Be careful what you say online because it can be easily misinterpreted,” Dr. Patchin said.
His message was echoed in his presentation, where he showed the results of typing a teenage girl’s name in Google. Patchin was able to find her address, phone number, school, the type of car she has, who her boyfriend was, who her parents were, various photos of her and other information.
