The #1-in-the-state Washington Warriors ended the Little Hawks’ two game winning streak at Kingston Stadium Thursday night, giving City a (28-7) loss, and effectively securing the district title for Washington.

The Warriors started with a very early lead, scoring a touchdown off of a 95 yard kickoff return by #2 Isaiah Nimmers. With the extra point, the Warriors were off, (7-0) in the first 13 seconds. Soon after, Wash scored another 7 on a major rushing drive (14-0).

City High, attempting to start play with a clean slate after the first 7, returned the resulting kick to their own 32, but their opening drives scored no points against Washington’s nose style defense. The Little Hawks almost made it to goal after a low-flying pass was caught by #8 Will Noack, but the next pass by #15 City QB Nate Wieland was shut down, and a later field goal attempt was blocked.

The Warriors led the Little Hawks (14-0) in the first half.

Play resumed with a touchback off of Washington’s kick, starting the Little Hawks on their own 20 yard line.

A short time later in the 3rd quarter, Washington’s #22 Tavian Patrick scored on a long outside rush to lead the Little Hawks (20-0).

City bounced back, however, with a decisive pick by #20 Naeem Smith on a ball intended for Washington’s #2 Isaiah Nimmers towards the end of the 3rd quarter.

In the 4th quarter, things started to pick up for the Little Hawks. City made a switch to a hurry-up offense in an effort to counter the slow-tempo game being played by Wash.

It payed off when Wieland broke away for a huge rush to the left, covering some much needed yardage for City and bringing them near the red zone.

City’s #8 TE Will Noack scored with a complete pass for City High under huge defensive pressure. The extra point was good, bringing the score to (20-7), with 7:37 left in the 4th quarter.

The Warriors then picked up their fourth touchdown with a pass to #24 O’Rien Vance after a brutal drive by #34 Johnny Dobbs.

The game closed with Washington letting the clock run out, ahead 21 points.

City High is currently (2-6) overall, and (2-2) in districts.

Washington is (8-0), (4-0) in districts.
