College Football is officially back and what an exciting week one it was. The Hawkeyes first game went swimmingly as they won 31-14 over FCS foe Illinois State. First year starter C.J. Beathard showed that he truly was the good choice as he threw for 211 yards on 15 completions and a touchdown as well as running for two scores. LeShun Daniels Jr. showed strong promise for this season and a type of running back that Iowa fans haven’t seen in awhile.

Daniels showed speed and power against Illinois State rushing for 123 yards on 26 carries but did not score any touchdowns as the only rushing touchdown came from Senior Jordan Canzeri who had five carries for 28 yards and had four catches for 90 yards including a 51 yarder. One surprisingly good performance came from wide receiver Matt VandeBerg who had six catches for 59 yards including a bubble screen that went for the lone passing touchdown of the game for the Hawks.

Iowa State also had a semi-surprising victory week one versus Northern Iowa winning 31-7. Sam richardson had a good game throwing for 233 yards and two touchdowns while running back Tyler Brown had 11 carries for 69 yards. The Cy-Hawk series kicks off tomorrow at 3:45 P.M. on Fox.
