Starting on Thursday, December 17th, the 7th episode of the franchise will be released to a worldwide audience. Early estimates for box office revenues opening weekend (18th-20th) are around 100-150 million dollars, a December record.

“Star Wars The Force Awakens might be the best thing since computers, it’s the best thing ever!” said Miles Pei ‘18.

On November 6, 2014 we first learned that Disney would release the seventh Star Wars film, under the title The Force Awakens. Set around 30 years after the second Death Star explosion (Episode VI), the movie will feature Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill reprising their roles as Han, Leia, and Luke, along with new stars such as John Boyega and Daisy Ridley.

“I look forward to seeing all the old characters from the other films again, but in a new scenario with new characters,” said Stephen Henkhaus ‘18.

The trailer also shows that there will be a new villain who goes by the name Kylo Ren.  Ren plans to finish what Darth Vader started (Galactic Empire). The two main factions in the movie will be The First Order and the New Republic.

Of course when talking about Star Wars, special effects always require attention.

“I’m really looking forward to the special effects, I really wanna know if they’re going to their roots and using cgi or makeup”, said Pei, “I remember seeing starwars as a kid and being in love with all the effects that they use. I also remember that not all the effects were cgi”
