Amazing, nobody ever wants to lose to [West] in anything, I’d be happy to win a checkers contest against them.

— Brennan Swayzer

City High’s freshman boys basketball team knocked off West High in a low-scoring game by a score of 24-21. Head coach Brennan Swayzer said that the team’s strategy was to milk the clock, and that the Little Hawks took about two minutes per possession to get a shot off, beginning in the first quarter. Without a shot clock in Iowa high school basketball, he says that this strategy could potentially be replicated by varsity.

“Amazing, nobody ever wants to lose to [West] in anything, I’d be happy to win a checkers contest against them,” Swayzer said of how it felt to beat the Trojans.
