On Saturday, February 6th, City High show choirs 4th Avenue Jazz Company and City Lights traveled to Mt. Pleasant to perform in the Music In Motion competition.

In the day rounds, City Lights placed second, and 4th Avenue Jazz Company placed fifth, advancing to the finals. In the final rounds, however, they retained their fifth place ranking.

“We were all a little disappointed,” Ciarra Butikofer ‘16 said. “I was hoping that we would move up at least one placing in the finals. We worked our hardest and put on a good show, however, so there’s not really very much more we could’ve done.”

Despite the results, the group still earned a caption award; Addie Bass ‘17 received the title of Best Female Soloist.

“I didn’t really process [winning] until much later,” Bass said. “However, I don’t perform just to try to win; I just really like the song [“Feeling Good”] and singing with such a talented group.”

4th Avenue will be traveling to El Paso, Illinois on February 20 for their final competition. Butikofer hopes for an improved overall performance.

“Even if we don’t come out with a win, it’s still going to be an amazing season,” Butikofer said. “I still think we have a phenomenal show.”
