The City High mens soccer team made their way to Kingston Stadium for the second time this season to face off against the Cedar Rapids Jefferson J-Hawks.

After being ranked the #1 team in the state and region and 16th in the nation (rankings from topdrawersoccer.com) it was crucial that the Little Hawks returned home with a win.

After a high attacking first half, City High finished the half empty handed having a total of 13 shots on goal with zero shots making it to the back of the net. Gaby Baloci ’16 continued to cause difficulties for the J-Hawk defense on the wing in the second half along with Victor Brown-Rodriguez ’16 and Nasim Salih ’16. Collin O’Meara ’16 played well at center back along with Sarrive Rukakiza ’16 leaving the J-Hawks with only three shots on goal the entire game. City finished full time with a total of 29 shots on goal, but none making the score sheet causing a 20 minute overtime to be played.

The Little Hawks continued to create chances in the box, but it wasn’t until Gaby Baloci played a great ball in the 95th minute to Nasim Salih ’16 who put the golden goal away for City High to bring them 1-0 against Jefferson.

“We definitely have to give them [Jefferson] props because they really did give us a game,” said Salih, “i’m just glad that we were the ones who came out victorious in the end as if we [City High] were to lose this game it could possibly cost us the MVC title,”

The Little Hawks will play at home against Waterloo East on April 28th for their next game.
