Tuesday, May 2nd, the City High Women’s soccer team traveled to the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex to face their opponents, Waterloo West. The Little Hawks with a record of 5-4, faced Waterloo West who had a record of 2-6. Kickoff was at 4:15.

At the start of the game, City showed dominance and controlled the game. The Little Hawks did not give the ball up much to Waterloo West in the first half, and kept the ball moving up and down the field. Waterloo fouled City in their own goal box and the center ref gave City a penalty kick. Grace Brown ’17, the team captain, took the penalty kick and scored. The Little Hawks led 1-0 now. Another senior, Sydney Schroder ’17, had a breakaway through the middle of the field and placed the ball past West’s goalie. At halftime, the score was 2-0. Little Hawks were in the lead.

In the second half, the game possession did not change. City kept the ball and played around Waterloo West. Head coach, Michael Prunty gave many different players some time on the field who usually don’y get much playing time. The third goal was made by Sydney Deprenger ’18 serving the ball to Schroder in the center of Waterloo’s goal box and sneaking the ball in the net. City won another foul in Waterloo’s box and Grace Brown decided to try and change up her typical kick…and the ball was blocked by the goalie. Brown later made up for this with a run down the field from her defensive position and finished the ball. The game ended and City had won 4-0.

The City High Womens team prepares to face Linn-Mar High School on Friday at Linn-Mar’s turf. Kick off is at 7:00 PM.
