Everything has led up to this moment. Every mile, every hard workout, every carb loaded dinner. After waking up early and making the long three-hour drive, the girls XC team arrived at the Fort Dodge State Cross Country course. It was a cold day.

“[The temperature] made it better for the fans. If it is ten degrees colder or warmer it shouldn’t affect the runners,” Ahlers said.

The girl’s team went into state ranked 15th.

“I think that on paper people counted us out and we just kept training and kept racing,” Ahlers added.

The girls placed 11th overall, increasing their previous ranking. Amelia Morrow ’18 lead the charge with a time of 19:27.6 and 23 overall.

“ I felt pretty good… I think I got 27th [23rd].”

The good races didn’t end with Amelia. Aly Hecker ran a 19:47.6 placing 39th and Esti Brady ran right behind her with a time of 19:48.2, placing 40th.
