City Hangs With #7 Pleasant Valley

Thursday night featured City Boys Varsity Basketball’s first game of the season. The Little Hawks, eager to get another chance on the court, faced off against #7 ranked Pleasant Valley.

This year’s squad is pretty young compared to others as the team mostly consists of juniors and only one senior. Right away both teams sported their great defensive ability.

After the first quarter, the combined score was under 20 as PV had a 2 point lead over City at 7-9. Fueled by Ry Threlkeld-Weigand’s 3 three’s, the team showed capable of competing with a top-10 team with the Little Hawks only trailing by 3 at the half.

City had many breaks in the second half as PV’s technical foul allowed the Little Hawks to take a 35-34 lead late in the third quarter. It was a shooting spree from there on as the score increased to 49-51 PV with 3:06 left.

However, PV showed why they are ranked 7th in the state by finishing it off in the last crucial minutes. They went on an 11-0 run to put the game out of reach.

They look to improve to 1-1 against Cedar Falls this Friday, December 8th at City High with a 7:30 PM tip.
