The 2018 football season officially came to an end on Monday night as the team held its annual awards banquet. The event celebrated the accomplishments of players from all three levels.

Each team played a highlight reel of their best plays from throughout the season and then announced award winners in the categories “Motor Award”, “Elite O-Linemen”, and “Fiercest Competitor.”

The varsity team closed out the night with the presentation of the “Martin Luna Award.” The award is named after City High student Martin Luna, who passed away in 2016 due to cancer. Luna was unable to participate in football at City because of his health, but remained a pivotal member of the team as a manager.

Luna’s mother was in attendance on Monday, and spoke to the players about her son’s dedication to the City High football program and her memories of the support her family received from the Little Hawk football team and the City High community.

This is the third year that the Martin Luna Award has been presented. This year’s winners were seniors Kyle Hefley and Quincy Wells.

“It was a huge honor winning this award,” said Hefley. “I just put my best into each day and tried to bring others along with me. I would always do whatever team needed.”
