Wrestling season is back, and the defending MVC Champion Little Hawks are ready to rumble. Ranked seventh in the state, City kicked off the season in dominating fashion with a 64-15 win over Cedar Rapids Xavier last night. Senior wrestler Brandon Lalla was happy to get the win.

“It was a great way to start off my last high school wrestling season,” said Lalla. “We performed very well as a team.”

Lalla is ranked preseason number 10 and pinned his opponent last night. He says he was excited for the chance to compete.

“I was fired up for my match,” Lalla said, “I went out there ready to wrestle and that’s what I did.”

The team cruised to victory, winning 11 matches. The win was no surprise for City, who despite losing key seniors such as state champion Jacob Dykes return four ranked wrestlers and many other starters. The number seven Little Hawks are expected to be in the hunt to repeat as MVC Champs and State Dual Tournament qualifiers.

The team competes again on Saturday at the Newton Invitational tournament.
