Despite success early in the season the boys sophomore basketball team fell 63-43 to Linn-Mar. While the game was played close for most of the second half, City fell behind early and couldn’t stem the bleeding.

Kolby Kucera ‘21, a forward on the team, feels like they were outpaced on defense.

“Offensively we did ok but our defense killed us. We didn’t come out fast enough and they put in more effort than us,” Kucera said.

The coach for the team, Jeff Hightshoe, feels this game doesn’t represent the type of season they have had thus far.

“That particular game wasn’t indicative of how hard we played and the kind of results we’ve grown accustomed to. Linn-Mar did a great a job of handling our pressure, they passed and shared the ball really well. We had trouble shooting three-pointers early and it changed how we had to play,” Hightshoe said.

Looking to the future the team looks to tighten their play up.

“We are going to work on the confidence of shooting a basketball and make sure people know their sets,” Hightshoe said.

One thing Kucera thinks the team could work on is knowing where they need to be at all times.

“We have to make sure we know all of our plays and know where to be on defense so your teammates can rely on you,” Kucera said.
