The girls track team has been practicing since February; running, jumping, and throwing almost every day for three months. It has attended many meets and is now working on qualifying events for the Drake Relays. On April 5, it competed in a meet at Pleasant Valley, varsity scoring fifth place with 90 points and junior varsity scoring eighth place with 28.5 points.

“There was some really big competition there so we don’t know if we did as well as we maybe would have wanted but we did overall really good,” Jae Dancer ‘21 said.

Dancer competed in three hurdle events: the 400 hurdles, shuttle hurdle relay, and the 100 hurdles. Personally, she is very happy with her races and is excited that her shuttle hurdle relay team is only one second from qualifying for the Drake Relays.

“Hopefully with this next upcoming meet we’ll have a really good chance of qualifying for Drake,” Dancer said.

Many of City’s relays are close to qualifying, in addition to Caroline Schakenbach ’20 in the long jump and Cece Kelly-Harvey ’21 in the open 800. Dancer enjoyed watching her peers compete, especially the 4×800 and 4×400 relays, and is looking forward to the rest of the season.

“It’s just fun watching everyone and seeing a lot of good runners,” Dancer said.
