City High Track competes at 109th annual Drake Relays

Rain or shine City High Little Hawks traveled to compete in the 109th Drake Relays held in Des Moines, Iowa. While the weather was not ideal, Caroline Schaeckenbach ‘20 placed second in the state for 400 hurdles with a time of 1:04.05. She also ran in the shuttle hurdle consisting of Jordan Sekafetz ‘21, Ta’nia Ansely ‘22, and Kate Swenning ‘19, placing 5th in the state.

“I felt really good except for when I stumbled over the last one.” Schaeckenbach said. “She beat me but my time was really good and the team got a personal record so while it didn’t feel good in the moment after we saw our time we were really proud.”

For boys, while the fastest 4×100 consists of Kaleba Jack ‘20, Max Deprenger ‘19, Sila Lulinda ‘19, and DaRhon Fouch ‘20 with a time of 44.74. At Drake, even with poor weather conditions Travon Williams ‘20, Tariq Ami ‘21, Fouch, and DaRhon, managed to run a personal record for there relay with a time of 45.70.

“Prior to the race we got to talk a lot just to get mentally prepared,” Williams ‘20. “I definitely felt prepared coming in because I knew that I was going to get subbed in either way so we just wanted to go out there compete, and have a good time.”
