After a season of always trailing right behind West high, the City high boys swim team pulled off a win against their cross town rivals when it mattered most, the state meet. On Saturday, February 15th, the boys swimming state meet was held at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center. The 200 Medley Relay was the first race of the day and City high was determined for a win.

“We’ve been working all year to get this win,” Forrest Frazier ‘20 said. “We knew what we had to do to pull it off.”

Not only did they take home the gold,  their time of 1:31.58 beat the previous state record of 1:32.67, which was set last year by Dowling Catholic high school. This race became head coach Zane Hogo’s first relay state victory.

The relay team consisted of Caleb Coons ‘22, Forrest Frazier ‘20, Isaac Weigel ‘21, and Bryce Hedens ‘22. Frazier swam his way to a body length lead in his breaststroke leg, Weigel maintaining it.  With 25 yards left on the final lap, city and west were neck and neck, but Hedens managed to get his hand to the wall first.

“I was told many times that I would start in first place,” Bryce Hedens ‘22 said. “When I hit the water, all I had to do was maintain the lead.”
