Sitting on the bleachers by the side of the Waterloo Central Middle School pool, under old fluorescent lights, the City High girl’s swim team cheered each other on at their second dual meet of the season against Waterloo on Tuesday, September 29.

“It was interesting,” Laila Butler-Mills ‘21, one of the three team captains, said. “It felt pretty chill and not very intense which made it a little bit challenging to race my best. But it was fun to be back in the pool racing after a couple of weeks off.”

The varsity team scored 106 points, losing to Waterloo, who scored 80 points, by 26 points. Swimmers Kalea Seaton ‘24, Julianne Berry-Stolezle ‘21, Grace Campion ‘22, and Avery Mann ‘24 ended the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 4:30.38.

Butler-Mills feels hopeful about the future of the season, hopes to be able to get in more practice, and swim well in the postseason.
