Despite the hybrid and online versions of the school year, Interact club has been meeting weekley through zoom allowing participants to discuss what the club will look like for the 2020-2021 school year.

“This year is completely different from others because we are trying to accommodate for both online and hybrid students. It’s really difficult to do so but I think it is going to be okay.” Melanie Tran-Dough 21’ Said.

Interact club will be continuing past school traditions such as the annual matchomatics competition which matches City high students as couples as well as tampon Tuesday which allows students to exchange feminine products for baking goods to help support and fund the club.

“Everything surrounding interact club is very open, hands on, and collaborative. This is a great club to join if you are seeking friends or just want a nice community to be with also while helping others.” Tran-Dough said.

Throughout the month of November, students and community members are encouraged to donate canned goods for a Table to Table can drive as well as participate in park cleanups of City Park and Hickory Hill at 3:30 on November 4th.

“We have a good amount of ideas and are trying to focus on coming together to do things more that are further apart in distance.” Tran-Dough Said.

They are also encouraged to participate in an online climate rally on November 12th through the Iowa City Sunrise Movement. It will be held over zoom encouraging all students, parents, and friends to come with the goal of communicating with organizations and community members to build a climate coalition moving forward.

“We just want to get as involved as possible, safely of course. We want to continue to do what we have done in the past while implementing safe varieties as well as replacements.” Tran-Dough said.
