Kalea Seaton ’24 swims backstroke in a meet against Dubuque Senior

The Marshalltown YMCA pool was packed with spectators as they prepared to watch the 2021 Women’s Swimming and Diving state meet. The City High’s Swimming and Diving team finished the two-day meet in 17th place, out of the 32 two teams that competed.

Individual state qualifiers included Greta Stanier ‘23 for diving, and Grace Hoeper ‘25 for the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. The team also qualified in the 200 freestyle relay with a team of Hoeper, Amelia Lang Fallon ‘23, Averi Loria ‘22, and Saoirse Miller ‘23. The 400 freestyle relay also qualified, with team members Kalea Seaton ‘24, Loria, Hoeper, and Margalit Frank ‘24. 

Hoeper finished 6th in the 50 freestyle and 5th in the 100 freestyle. The 200 free relay finished in 17th place, and the 400 free relay finished in 28th place.
