All the fastest teams in the midwest toe the line at Nike Cross Regionals. The City High boys who competed at the state championships traveled to Sioux Falls, South Dakota as the Little Hawk Club team to compete in the Boys Championship race at Nike Cross Regionals.

Due to this event’s rules the boys were not allowed to wear their traditional City High jerseys or be known as “City High School Cross Country,” so instead they ran in bright green and were called the Little Hawk Club. The City boys placed 7th overall and 2nd Iowan team. After placing 3rd at the State Championships, this race was a huge celebration because they beat a team that previously beat them at State. “After our third place finish at state we qualified for the championship race, which is the top 22 teams in the nation,” Parker Max ‘22 said.

In a normal year they would be running to qualify for Nike Cross Nationals, which is where the fastest highschoolers in the nation come together to race a 5k. Each region of the nation has a Regionals race, top ten individual finishers and top 2 team finishes would have qualified for Nike Cross Regionals. Due to Covid-19 this race will not be held.

Their team was led by Ford Washburn who placed 4th at State and 33rd here at NXR. The top ten team finishes would receive a trophy, so with their 7th place finish they got to bring home a nice trophy. “Super hyped with the 7th place finish by the team,” Truman Thompson ‘23 said.
