Wind warnings effective from 3:00 PM to 6:00 AM on Thursday morning

Today’s high temperature is 71 degrees Fahrenheit, and the National Weather Service issued warnings for high wind speeds this morning for Johnson County and many others throughout the state. The warning starts at 3:00 PM today. ICCSD has rescheduled tonight’s band concert, evening sports practices, and the Inclusion Clubs party. All events have been postponed after 6 p.m..

The wind warning will expire tomorrow morning at 6:00 AM, and as of 9:40 AM, all counties in Iowa have a wind warning. Expected wind speeds will reach up to 65 miles per hour according to the weather service. Power outages and tree damage are expected.

It is advised by the National Weather Service to avoid travel or be cautious when driving, and to avoid windows during peak wind speeds.
