The City High arena just got louder. To begin the upcoming basketball season, the City High girls basketball team received a donation from McCommas-Lacina Construction Company to commission professional videos introducing the team that will be played before each game. With plenty of special effects, including fog in the background and lasers shooting across the screen, the video showcases the City High girls basketball team who are currently ranked #2 in the state of Iowa.

“The overall experience of filming the video was great,” said Andie Westlake ‘22, a starter on the girls basketball team. “It was so exciting to have a professional videographer working with us. It’s something we’d never done before and I think everyone was really happy to experience it and have fun.”

At the beginning of the season, the team was hoping the creation of the video would bring more excitement to the crowd.

“Once the video is played and tip-off is about to begin, you can definitely feel the energy in the arena increase,” Westlake said.

In total, two videos were created. The first video shows highlights from the first few games and practices whereas the second video introduces each player on the team.

“I think that the roster video was a great addition to the project,” Westlake said. “I think it gives the crowd a chance to get to know each of us on the team so that they can better support us during the game.”

Westlake encourages anyone interested in the video to attend a home basketball game soon.

“We are entering the toughest stretch of the season right now and having a great student section could be the difference [between] winning and losing,” Westlake said.
