The City High Men’s Soccer team just completed their undefeated preseason beating both West Liberty 3-0 on Friday and Regina 2-0 the next day. During the games, 4 players made their varsity debuts:Ben Borger Germann ‘26, RuiTorres ‘26, Kerian Fain ‘24, and Jude Geerdes ‘24.

Heading into this weekend, the Little Hawks will kick off their season with their first competitive games against Southeast Polk and Marshalltown at the Cedar Rapids Prairie tournament on Saturday, April 1st. The Little Hawks hope to get their season off to a winning start that will continue up until the state tournament.

“We will have to be hungrier than ever. The team is very fed up with not making state in previous years, and we know that we have to raise the standard.” Emmitt Hansen ‘23 said.

Captain Emmitt Hansen, an all MVC midfielder, will be a player to watch this weekend for City, currently with 2 goals leading the team in the preseason games.

Sophomore Jackson Lindsey is among the 16 players returning from last season’s substate finals defeat. He believes the experience the team has will help them on their journey to make a deep run in the state tournament.

‘’The biggest thing is sticking together as a team. We know what we need to do to win, we just need to focus on playing together as a group,” said Jackson Lindsey ‘25.
