Opstad Auditorium is filled with color and patterns galore as students of all backgrounds come together to showcase their cultural heritage. Music plays as students tour the setup of food and posters in the lobby.

The students involved have been gathering during advisories most days leading up to this showcase, practicing dances and their best runway walks. After Wisdom Konu ‘24 got the idea for a Culture Day from a friend, planning began.

“I wanted to have a Culture Day not just for him but everybody at our school, so then people would have to see us, have to see our culture, have to see what we have to offer at our school,” Wisdom said.

The show was put on during the sixth hour and showed off cultures from Latin America, South East Asia, and Central Europe, as well as many regions and countries in Africa. The International Club and Latino Hawks hope to continue doing Culture Day in the coming years after the success of this initial showcase.

“Culture Day is important because it shows the diversity and the different ethnicities that are at City High,” Helena Echa ‘24 concluded.
