After entering the season with high expectations, the Little Hawks Boys Soccer team has lived up to the hype through their first nine games, boasting a 6-1-2 record and earning a spot among the state’s top contenders. Led by senior captains Jack Dancer and Jackson Lindsey, the team is firmly focused on a deep postseason run.
“Anything less than a strong push at state would be a disappointment to us,” Dancer ‘25 said.
City High’s lone loss came in a narrow 3-4 battle with Iowa City West. Since then, the Little Hawks responded with a win over Davenport North and a 2-2 draw against Dowling Catholic, continuing to build momentum as the season progresses.
Dancer has been a standout on the offensive end, netting 11 goals in just 9 games. He’s currently on pace to break the school’s single-season scoring record of 22 goals, held by Fernando Pacheco. On the defensive side, Lindsey ‘25 has been a consistent force at center back despite dealing with a calf injury.
“Playing through it hasn’t been easy, but I want to be out there with my teammates and winning games,” Lindsey said. “We’re building something special.”
That determination was on full display in City’s most recent match, where they topped No. 5-ranked Prairie High School 2-0 in a statement win. The Little Hawks controlled possession throughout the game and showcased the depth and composure that has defined their season so far.
With eight games left in the season, the Little Hawks’ next four opponents are Dubuque Hempstead, No. 6 Cedar Rapids Washington, Cedar Falls, and Waterloo West. These games come ahead of the “Life is Bigger Than Sports” tournament.
In this final stretch, the Little Hawks will look to carry their recent momentum and finish the regular season strong before a potential playoff run.
